About: In 2021, Snap Inc. launched two new academies, the Snap Storytelling Academy and the Snap Lens Academy (in partnership with LACMA), to join their existing Snap Design and Engineering Academies. I was hired to design the new logos for these academies and update their existing Snap Design and Engineering Academies logos.
Snap Storytelling Academy Logo Ideation
"Storytelling" is the keyword to represent in this logo. It was important for iconography to be clear because there are many ways to tell a story. In my initial research, "books" were imagery that represented a "story," but I also decided to explore imagery for the "telling" part.
I created a variety of concepts and multiple iterations of them. The academy logos are used in Snap swag, so visualizing the logo on possible swag was useful for stakeholders.
Snap Lens Academy Logo Ideation
I started by looking at existing imagery and iconography that Snap used to refer to augmented reality and lenses. I discovered similarities across products like Spectacles, lens studio, and Snapchat.
I created a variety of concepts and multiple iterations of them. The academy logos are used in Snap swag, so visualizing the logo on possible swag was useful for stakeholders.
Updates to Snap Design & Engineering Academies Logos
Back in 2016, Snap Inc. replaced the font "Graphik" that was used in their Snapchat app with "Avenir Next." I noticed the logos for both the Snap Design Academy and Snap Design Engineering Academy used the old font, Graphik. The font in the logos for the new academies was not going to match the one for the current ones, so I brought this issue to the stakeholders, which requested me to work on updating the font of the existing logos.

Digital Wallpapers
Due to the pandemic, the academies were going to be remote for a consecutive year. Snap Inc. wanted students to have digital wallpapers to use as their zoom background, so I designed multiple wallpapers to match the new logos.
